The British International School is a caring and multicultural community that enables all individuals to develop as learners and leaders in a dynamic and challenging environment. The British International School (BIS) in Hanoi comprises of one main campus with both a Primary and Secondary Headteacher.  Founded in 2012 as a British-Vietnamese International School, it made the transition to a British International School in August 2014, becoming the first British International School to be established in Hanoi.

Outstanding Facilities and Teachers

BIS Hanoi 0921

Our schools operate from purpose-built modern campuses with first-class facilities resourced to the highest level and staffed with dedicated, skilled and committed teachers, thus ensuring the education on offer is amongst the very best available anywhere in the world. There are currently over 230 full-time teachers, the vast majority of whom are British qualified and trained with recent UK experience. All pre-school and primary teaching classes have English-speaking Vietnamese teaching assistants, most of whom are qualified teachers in their own right.

Highly Successful Students

Underpinning all that we do in our schools is the belief that all children can be successful at school and that they should be encouraged to make the most of their talents. Academic success is valued highly, but it is also our belief that the all-round development of each child is just as important.

Curriculum

CurriculumThe Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is an integral part of the school and provides an excellent base from which the children progress into a more formal learning environment as they enter Primary. BIS offers a child-centred, play-based curriculum using teaching and learning materials from the British Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

The National Curriculum for England forms the framework of the educational programme through to the end of Key Stage 3, which is adapted to meet the needs of the international community. In our Primary schools this is achieved through the use of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), which is a modified curriculum for schools wishing to place the National Curriculum for England into an international context.  In Key Stage 4 our students are prepared for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).  At BIS Hanoi, Advanced Levels (A Levels) are also taught to English-speaking students from Pre-School to Year 13. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is taught at BIS HCMC and will be offered to students in Hanoi from 2016 onwards (pending authorisation).

The historical examination results for the school compare very favourably with other top international schools around the world, as well as with the best grammar schools and independent schools in the UK.  Students leaving BIS can be confident in the knowledge that they have been well prepared for a smooth transition to the university system of any country.

English as a Second Language

APAA-1150

Although our students are academically able, some do not have English as their first language. Consequently, the school operates English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme for those children who initially need extra support. Students normally make rapid progress and quickly integrate into the mainstream classroom. All the children and adults connected with the school are expected to speak English inside the school and this is also encouraged in the playground.
